Munchkin Cat F.A.Q.

A scottish fold munchkin kitten is a breed of domestic cat known for its short legs, which are the result of a natural genetic mutation that affects bone growth. This mutation leads to a form of dwarfism, but aside from their leg length, Munchkins have normal-sized bodies and typical cat proportions. They were officially recognized as a breed by The International Cat Association (TICA) in 1991, following years of observation and research that found the gene responsible for their short stature did not cause other health problems when bred responsibly.

Our scottish fold munchkin kitten are known for being playful, outgoing, and affectionate. Many people describe them as kitten-like well into adulthood, and despite their short legs, they are surprisingly agile and fast. They can run, climb, and jump, though sometimes not as high as cats with longer legs. Their coats can be short or long and come in virtually any color or pattern, since they can be outcrossed with other breeds or domestic cats to maintain genetic diversity.

You can either fill out an application, or email/reach out to us on social media. We’d love to talk to you and get to know you. You can keep up with our current availability here.

If what you’re looking for isn’t available, get in touch anyways / fill out an application form! We can notify you of matings, and when a kitten of your preference is available, we will reach out. We used to keep a detailed waitlist, but it was hard to keep track of who found a scottish fold munchkin kitten before we are able to contact them, and it was a little tedious. So now it’s first-come-first-serve.

A deposit of 20% must be sent to hold the kitten. The deposit will go toward your final purchase price and is NOT refundable. Every deposit we’ve ever taken goes into care & vetting costs.

You can see the costs of our kittens down below, and they are always subject to change. We try to keep our prices as reasonable, but please understand that running a cattery can be very expensive. Our pricing is competitive compared to similar catteries in our area. However, we are definitely higher than places like Craigslist as we have certain things we work to maintain to ensure the kitten is happy and thriving mentally and physically now and in the future (plus, you run the risk of being scammed on sites like those, and a much higher risk of getting a kitten or cat inflicted with illness or improper socialization).

I work full time from home to maintain all of the cat’s health and well being, so I apologize for I don’t immediately respond if you reach out! I try to get back within 24 hours usually.

As a baseline, we follow TICA’s code of ethics. But, we believe you have to go even beyond that to truly be a good cattery!

Our scottish fold munchkin kitten, MUST clear ALL genetic testing and temperament evaluations before breeding. These are available on request and/or are sent to new parents when their kitten is reserved. Our male cats must clear HCM testing once a year, and we will be adding these on for females too (males are more at risk).

Our scottish fold munchkin kitten are bred long leg to short leg at this time. However, I want to note that it’s a myth that breeding short leg to short leg is dangerous for the kittens, it just results in a non-viable litter (i.e. two copies of the dominant gene will result in the fetus being re-absorbed in utero – AKA a cat with two copies of the dominant gene cannot be born at all, physically). With Munchkin breeding, it is important to maintain minimal bowing of front legs and longer back legs than the front (resulting in raised hips). All of our breeders are evaluated for these traits. We do not try to breed for extremely short legs (“rughugger”) for welfare concerns, these variations can be natural but are not a “selling point” to us.

We are currently in the process of getting our Munchkins evaluated for joints through radiology!

As a whole, our cats are also protected for fleas and ticks through Bravecto (older cats) & Cheristin (younger cats). We do not allow contact with unknown animals or people to reduce likelihood of other contagious diseases. We have an incredibly strict and rigid schedule for yearly testing, monthly preventatives, and daily cleaning.

If something changes or seems off at any point of their breeding career, they are retired immediately, regardless of age. At max we do not have more than 2 litters similar in age at a time (I feel like it diversifies your attention too much).

What you get from our cattery is predictability and support. We will never let a kitten go home if it shows any condition (genetic or not), and will ensure they have been looked over at all angles by a vet. If something goes happen after the kitten goes home, we try our best to provide as much support as possible.

We also strive to have very socialized kittens, so they are exposed to new experiences early on (bumpy car rides, loud vacuum cleaners, bath time, nail trims, etc). We handle them every single day so they’re cuddly and they sleep with us as night too! Some kittens can be slower to open up, and every kitten is different, but we’ve yet to hear from anyone that they’ve been disappointed with their kitten’s socialization.

We are located in the Cornwall Cres, Yate, Bristol BS1 1DA, United Kingdom but we have kittens all over the UK! We’re a family of travelers so we love being able to visit new places and meet new kitten families. At this time, we do not transport outside of the UK mainland (including Hawaii, apologies), unless you decide to hire a flight nanny or organize everything on your own.

If transit requires us to fly, these trips are subject to air cabin pet fees and minor additional transit fees. We partner with a few excellent pet nannies that we are happy to suggest to you if the timing doesn’t align for us to take the trip. All of our kittens do amazing in car and air travel, so don’t worry about them. We take a million steps beforehand to ensure they’re safe and comfortable the entire time.

If you wish to pick up your kitten from us, we service Cornwall Cres, Yate, Bristol BS1 1DA, United Kingdom, and can happily meet you at any of these at no charge.

At go-home time, our kittens will be vaccinated three times (their core FVCRP shots and boosters), spayed or neutered, vet checked, dewormed twice, microchipped, and a TICA pedigree can be provided upon request. Parental registration, testing, and records can also be requested if you would like it.

In the rare cases a scottish straight kittens for sale goes home before we can do the rabies and 3rd booster shot, you are REQUIRED to get those done. We do not sell kittens with breeding rights and do not let uncastrated kittens out unless of very special case-by-case circumstances . We offer lifetime breeder support, so if you got a cat from us years ago, you can still chat with me with any questions you have.

Scottish straight kittens for sale will be socialized and litterbox trained, and come with a one year health guarantee against all genetic conditions.

Each kitten will come with a free transitional kit that will ensure he or she has a safe and welcome transition to a new home. These include raw, wet, and dry foods, alongside toys, blankets, etc, and a guide on how to take care of your new family member! We also will send you home with a free 1 year of pet insurance with Trupanion.

Scottish straight kittens for sale are ready to go home between 12 to 16 weeks of age, per TICA’s code of ethics. We will NEVER let them go any earlier, so please do not ask. We VERY rarely let them go younger than 16 weeks, especially for the Munchkins, and will only do so in extreme/special cases. Why? Early weaning and early removal of kittens from their litter can result in behavioral issues. We are also 100% happy to take care of your kitten a few weeks after 16 weeks if needed, no extra cost.

We suggest setting up a small room for your new family member for the first few days your kitten will be home. Most kittens will adapt quickly, but some may be frightened and confused by the new smells and new space and will require some time to decompress. As they grow more accustomed to you, your family, and your space, you can start introducing them to more rooms over time. If you have another pet, it is required in our contract to quarantine and introduce slowly. I’ve written out the best way to transition your new kitten here.

I would pre-order the food we suggest ahead of time, and set up an automatic water fountain! All of our buy scottish fold kitten are fed on schedule and have unlimited access to fountains.
